you nailed it, Greg: I particularly like ‘ A new temple in miniature’ —

Coming from you, John, that’s high praise. I wanted to write a poem that was about the creations of man (“artifice”) rather than about nature, although I will write about nature at some point in the future. The height of artifice, it seems to me, is the microchip …

Maybe so, maybe so. The microchip is what makes this dialogue we’re having possible, and that is indeed a wondrous thing.

I like “A new temple in miniature”. It’s the same pattern: We worship things we don’t understand which don’t reciprocate to the individual. It can be capricious and harmful to an individual while claiming to do for the good of all. Even the makers of AI don’t understand what it is doing and what logic is used to reach a solution — the math of a million lines of code can’t be traced through and understood.
