Really, life is easy. Even in olden days, life was easy. The simplest thing to do is to follow the tried-and-true path and do what everyone else is doing. And, that is what the majority do.
The only problematic life happens when you’re smart and unique and decide to forge your own way. Then life gets a little harder. But it’s still easy.
Those who say “life is hard” are weak. Perhaps I’m being too critical. But really, people like to complain and puff themselves up. They like to say how hard they work, and how much they go through. But is it really so hard working the vast majority of jobs? Human beings are built to work. There’s plenty of rest and relaxation and recharging of batteries.
There is probably more mental illness now than there was in the past, and more atomization of society. It’s harder to meet a friend and a lover, for both men and women. This is undeniably a pressure on people’s hearts and minds, and contributes to what difficulty there is in life. But to say that it’s hard? No. You adjust. You make do. You find other ways to get solace — reading, pets, whatever it may be.
A lot depends on your viewpoint. There is the saying that a man can make a hell of heaven or a heaven of hell and this is completely dead-on. You can choose to see a specific time period as hard or you can see it as an adventure. I’ve had plenty of adventures in my life. They were great. Objectively speaking, I was a smart and unique guy going my own way and I had to struggle far harder than average joes. It would be easy to resent that, to dwell on it. To blame others. But I got a lot out of the experience. I’m tougher, and smarter, and more able to see around corners.
There was fun even in adversity. Trying hard, stretching oneself, is pleasurable. Human beings aren’t built to be soft couch potatoes watching television. We’re meant to go out there, do things. That’s why when manned space exploration and colonization becomes practical, it will be a great day for the species. We need that kind of push. We thrive under pressure, even weak people. Life is good.
