|poem| Toronto

“Toronto is a special city, and the environment is perfect for the arts; free and alive.” — Emory Cohen

  • Hunched with broad shoulders by Lake Ontario
  • Scowling at the world
  • Toronto’s buildings frame a lean, angular face
  • The CN Tower itself
  • What a miracle this place is
  • Center of the Golden Horseshoe,
  • That agglomeration of 9 million souls —
  • Soon to be Ten
  • The Golden Horseshoe
  • The name says it all
  • Economic opportunity, freedom for newcomers
  • A land that time forgot
  • Toronto:
  • Scenes and vistas of snow and flowers
  • Rivers and trimmed parklands
  • Lusty skyscrapers and magnificent homes
  • Toronto:
  • Center of the known universe
  • Where sports come to play
  • The buck stops here
  • And multiplies
  • When they ask where you live and
  • You say Toronto,
  • They say Ah. I’ve heard of that.
  • And that’s what makes it an alpha world city.
